Sewing Patterns

Sewing patterns were first introduced in Mme. Demorest's Mirror of Fashion magazine in the 1860's. Ellen Curtis Demorest created the first paper patterns which were found in their early magazines.  A flurry of pattern companies followed and commercialized the grading process.  While there are a handful of major sewing pattern companies, the independent lines offer the most creativity and flair!
